The vendor tells us this Caliente was purchased new from the Paris Motor Show by a Mr Pugh when he retired in 1965. Presenting wonderfully in metallic grey pearl paintwork this Caliente has a great history and is well known in various circles.

They definitely do not build cars like they used to. The only failure being a broken valve spring on one car.

Over a gruelling 960 hours of flat-out performance the four cars covered over 100,000 miles. It entered four Calientes into month long endurance test at the Daytona Speedway. In an unprecedented move Comet wanted to prove the durability of its new Caliente too. The Caliente badged cars were the top of the range models aimed at Sixties buyers who wanted a higher level of spec, including chrome, auto gearboxes and plush interiors.

The Comet designers picked their game up with the 2 nd generation cars, and by 1967 when the 3 rd gen Comets arrived, the American muscle car era was at full throttle and the Comet fitted right in. The Comet range ran from 1960 right through until 1971. The 1 st generation cars which ran through until 1963 were considered to be something of a design throwback to the Fifties era of designing vehicles.
